That is some cool looking obs and a fine point. Material kinda resembles what might be found in below the Texoma dam. Keep em coming..

I think there is cbshane. I met up with a guy several years ago and he gave me a chunk of it. I've never gone down there looking for it (was fishing) but he described it as: Right below the dam, take a hammer(stone?) and hit the moss covered rocks. you might search for awhile but he said it was there and that peice he gave me was deffinantly knappable and closely resembled maddog's obs. Might turn out to be one of those goose chases:).

This material came from the Obsidian Flats in Oregon I love working it I am still having trouble spalling peaces off. I have got some that I can get into some points but I was wanting to make a knife for him but maybe I will make one later

nice looking point,i like obsidions but i also like the real hard materials too  :P

are you using copper or anlter on that obsid.?
when i started knapping it was all slabs at first, then i switched to some nodules of obsidion
had the worst luck trying to spall it with copper.this sumer i aquired a large and a smal moose billet
man o man what differance that made.the spalls come off so much nicer with anlter on obsidion
well atleast for me.

good luck

I am using a hammer stone and an anteler. I have a hard time with the hammer stone because it causes the obs crumble. The antler seems to work better but the flaks that come off are really thin and sometimes to thin to make points outof

sounds like your platfoms are crushing when you strike them
remember to let the weight of the hammerstone do the work
and abraid abraid abraid abraid and abraid that obsidion
when you think you have abraided it enough and are ready to strike it withthe hammer stone
abraid it again ;)

how big of an antler ae you using?
i have a moose bilet that weighs right about 1#,works devinely
i also have a smaller moose billet that weighs about 6oz

i wish i could tell you how istrike and the angle that seems to work for me
but i am terrible at trying to describe this sort of thing, would be so much easier to show you

if you can sit with some one it sure helps with the learning curve

good luck

Dang brother! That looks good. I'll trade you some sitka shafts for one or two just like that!
Give me a call, I think mom or dad will be coming down sometime soon to pick up my dog and if we could each get with them we could use them as our carrier.

p.s. been out and done any good lately?
