First primitive harvest 7 pt. "lost souls"

I just started building bows in Dec 2009. Since I was very young I always wanted to build a bow and harvest a deer. Today my dreams were answer. The osage character bow "lost souls" was my first shooter bow. It was named after a close friend that died of cancer and the loss of my unborn child. I finished the bow on the same day these events occured....In fact i finished the bow to keep my mind off things. I choose to hunt with this bow because it was the heaviest bow I made and shot the best. (75#@27").

So there I was.............6:40 p.m.....5 yards broad side.....double lung.....no track

I am sooooooooo happy!!! Not the biggest buck I ever shot but definatly my biggest accomplishment yet.

I'm sorry to hear of the circumstances that named your bow, but congratulations on a great bow, great hunt and great deer.  I suspect that at 5 yards you didn't need quite that much bow weight.  That's code for I wish I could pull that much.   Again, great job and you're right, great accomplishment.  You will remember this hunt, I guarantee it.

Congrats, nice bow and nice shot!  I have the same dream as you, but I just built my first longbow and will have to wait until next fall.  I still need a lot of practice.

Good Luck next fall Cameroo. One thing I did was....knowing your comfort zone, mine was 15 yards. Set a stand or blind up with that in mind.

Thank you Gstoneberg...I had a pass through and I wonder if a lighter bow would have gave the same results??? I guess its all about shot placement and not so much about weight.

That's a good point Jon.  While there are certainly other factors, I do believe the odds go up for a pass-through with more draw weight.

Happy for your success and sorry for your losses, Jon. Sounds like there is a lot of sentimental value and good medicine in that bow. And 75# at five yards will definitely cut down on your tracking time.
