Got the Ryobi on sale for twenty nine dollars. It has temperature adjustments from two hundred up to eleven hundred degrees. I've had it for a couple years now, and have no complaints.

the one harbor freight sells for ten bucks is not a bad gun , if your just using it occasionally. It has  high and low settings, plenty of heat for straightening a  bow.

I bought the $17 wagner from wal-mart a couple of years ago.  It has 2 heat settings and has worked great.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

I can't remember the make of mine, but it has 4 heat settings, and a hi/low fan setting. I like the versatility.

What sort of temperature do you set it to for tempering? Have yopu tempered Ash?

Wait, I bought a Milwaukee for around 29.00  at walmart and it has served me well. I have two, the other is a Milwaukee and it cost 90.00. I also use a space heater in the winter. Denny

I've finally succumbed and bought one from Scewfix, it was on special offer £29:99 2kw with digitally adjustable heat control.
I shall have to try it on my Ash bow which went belly up.
With the digital control I should be able to make some fairly well controlled trials, as I've been a bit sceptical before.

I've been using a Wagner for about 10 years.  It was cheap and no frills, but it has worked fine.

Humble pie for Del.
My scepticiscm was unjustified.
I've heat treated the limb of my Ash Meare heath which went weak, I clamped it flat and slowly increased the heat settings, it started workning between 350 and 400 degrees C.
I got it light golden brown and a day later unclamped it, it's straight as a board and much stiffer than the untreated limb.
So my oppolgies to anyone I've irritated by by doubting, I now see my previous attempts had been too hot too quick with no recovery time.
Now, do I have gravy or custard on this humble pie?

Del, yes to tempering Ash, although other woods seem to respond better. As far as temperature on the heat gun, I run it on the highest setting. It is just a matter of keeping the gun moving to avoid scorching.
