A question about walnut board bows
« on: October 10, 2010, 02:44:59 pm »
I see why a quarter sawn board makes the best board bows but what about walnut? If I understand correctly what I have been reading about building bows from walnut, it doesn't matter if you violate the back or not. So does it matter how the grain runs when choosing a piece of walnut lumber for a bow?
I'm no where near as smart as my phone!

With all wood stave and board bows you should consider the grain. If you are goint to back the walnut bow the grain is not as critical.
