My wife was getting rid of a mini crock pot.  I filled it with water and it gets up to 165 degrees.  Is this to hot to make hide glue with?

As a species we're fundamentally insane. Put more than two of us in a room, we pick sides and start dreaming up ways to kill one another. Why do you think we invented politics and religion.

I'll second that. Using an old crock pot to directly heat hide glue is fine.
I even use it full of water with a container holding the glue immersed in the water. I find it easier to lift the container out to apply glue and avoid drips on the crock pot.
You can then slip crockpot back in the cupboard without the missus even knowing you'ved used it!
and hey! Let's be careful out there
