Bark removal

I put away a Saskatoon stave about 8 months ago without removing the bark from the back. Any advice on getting it off now without damaging the underlying wood?

I carefully drawknife the bark off. I get what I can and scrape off the rest. There have been times when I've damaged the back. If I cut through a ring on the back then I have to remove that ring. Not easy with thin rings. Jawge

I just debarked a Black Walnut stave Sunday night and the bark was stuck on it pretty bad.  I started with my drawknife and it wasn't working that good so I switched to my fillet knife.  For some reason it worked better than my draw knife did.  As I got closer to my back ring I switched to 60 grit sandpaper to get through the cambium layer.  And definitely be careful about going through a ring like Jawge said.  Good luck! :)
