1/4 Sawn Hickory Selfbow
« on: September 27, 2010, 08:58:23 am »
I worked back and forth , from the BBI to this one. It's the first time doing tip overlays. It seemed like forever to get any movement out of the limbs before they started letting me get them into shape.
It's 1/4 sawn Hickory. 49# @ 26" 63.5 end2end 62.5 n2n.Tips are  IPE  2" at the fades tapering to 1" at the transition to the static ends Levers are 9" and the tips are 3/8" at the nocks. The handle is leather with a floppy tucked and gluedI took some brown and blue B-50 twisted to give it a little extra look.   and finally 6 coats of tung oil finish. Hope you enjoy the pics. (wish they could be better quality) :(

Thank you for the complements y'all. It really was fun making this one ;D I think I like this true 1/4 sawn wood ;)

Jawge... The handle is 3/4 X 3/4 and 4.75 between fades 5/8" from fades to 3/8 at the fades at the static end.

Dave... I don't notice much hand shock at all.

Dwardo...Maybe Santa will bring me a good camera for Christmas ;D

Rich....Again between your tillering tips and Eric's Gizmo, it helped allot

Looks great!!! I have a hickory board that I need to get after and you have given me more motivation. Your handel looks a little narrow for being only 3/4" thick. Watch that it doesn't break on you. THanks for posting.
