First Steaming
« on: September 18, 2010, 06:40:26 pm »
Tried elm a few months ago.  It resisted it to the point of I was wondering whether it was worth the effort.

I finally got an osage stave down to one ring and got it bending some floor tillering (just barely).  I decided to stick it in my steam chamber for an hour and a half to see what osage would do.

It came out 'limber' and I worked on the prop twist some and got it clamped to my form before it cooled off .. .thanks to my wife who was working the clamps on the other side of the form.

I had some trouble with the ring chasing and had to take off an extra ring or two reducing my overall limb thickness, but hopefully it will take some back set from the form and will be heavy enough to kill a little old southeastern whitetail with in a month or so.  That is if I can get it tillered!

I was pretty excited to see that the steam actually worked this time.

looks good.
it'll hold some of that reflex but expect a little springback when
you remove it from the form.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
