Plain vs. Quarter Sawn

I know this has been covered before, but I have a few questions.  Would a bows layout be different on plain vs. quarter sawn boards?  If I'm planning on backing with hickory or bamboo, does it even matter?  Are there performance differences with one over the other or integrity issues?

you really have to look out for pin knots when dealing with quartersawn wood, if you get one that runs completely across the limb of the bow on the belly side of the board then you have potential for some pretty bad failure.
