silk backing question

   Hey   guys,    just a  random  question,,,,  on  a fabric  backing,  (mainly  silk)  how  many  coats  of  tite bond III  do  you  stop at??   I'm backing  a  hickory  backed  black  locust   ( I allways back w/fabric)  I did one good (  pretty  heavy) coat of  tbIII over  silk it  looks  real  good,,, almost like glass w/ a  satin  finish!   I have  been  doing  2 or three  coatings  on  linen  but  that  gets  painted  or  cammo'ed.  this  one fairly  heavy  coat  looks  so  good   I'm  afraid to  add  more  glue   the  hickory  grain  looks  nice  thanks  for  any  replies  I  was  just  thinking   JEFFW

With fabric backed bows, I generally don't put any more glue on 'em after I got the backing glued up.

 Although I have applied another heavy coat over the backing I usually just  apply 1 coat per backing. Then after the glue dries and the edges have been filed, I sometimes apply another light, watered-down coat. It just depends on wither or not you want a glossy, heavy finish look or a more natural material look. Its also easier to paint or design when there isn't as much glue.

Extra weight on the limbs can't help, and there is no more strength added with more glue added.

other than the sizing layer of glue
all i use is what it takes to saturate the fabric and hold it down
no extra layers on top of that

I usually put just enough glue on the silk to get a smooth finish. God Bless

  Thanks   so  much  guys!!!  I  opted   for thin and  smooth,,,wow!  I  have been  going too  heavy  with  linen,  but  I'm  glad  I  checked  with  you  all   thanks  JEFFW
