Clydesdale bow Boo and Ipe
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:11:54 am »
I named this my Clydesdale bow because the colors remind me of a Clydesdale for whatever reason..lol   But here it is. its Bamboo backed Ipe . The grip has a piece of osage in it ,as well as a very red piece of Ipe that seems to contrast the colors well. Its 62" long and 1 3/8 wide and tapers to 3/8" nocks.  its 52# @ 28"
Chocolate deer hide grip, Ipe tip overlays and bobcat fur silencers. This bow Faxes and arrow down range pretty well. I am more than satisfied with it and although i dont make very many backed bows, i think the one is my favorite so far. I still prefer my twisted sticks to these, but its fun putting one of these together every now and then.

Very nice bow, Ryan! I have a straight profile BBI in the works too and you have just inspired me to finish it.  Yours is top notch!  Got it bookmarked for August Backed Bow of the Month Contest.  :)

Very nice! Do you glue a wood laminated bow up on a form the same as with a glass laminated?

Really like that color combination.  It is a great example of that bow.  Very nice.

thanks much guys
Steve-  i induce about an 1 1/2 of reflex and clamp the boo down to the ipe with a whole mess of spring clamps. enough to go up and down each limb to get a good tight glue line, so no i dont really use a form, just a clamp in the middle to induce reflex.
Jeff- i dont use any particular taper rate i cut everything out my hand and by eye and then work it down till t starts working right. kinda hard to measure too b\c i rounded the belly up as i went. looks like about 5\8 tapered to 1/2 inch or so and then a little stiffer tips.

Nice bow !  :)
Hm, but a bit short with a stiff handle for an 28" draw length when the bow is only 62" long ...

Not for a BBI...

It doesn't care if it is an BBI or BBO or BBM or Rattan or...it depends on the Design .
Don't forget the string angle problem , because of the handle and the fades there is a bit more space, but still it is very short for that design and drawlength.

62" N/N

2* 28" = 56 " +  ~ 8"  (handle + fades ) = 64"
That would be short , and the tiller has to be spot on .

The drawlength on the pic is probably around 24" or 26" I guess...
But the bow is nice  :)
