stone point embedded in bone pic...
« on: August 19, 2010, 07:22:55 pm »
I've always been fascinated by bones that have stone points embedded in them.  I've only seen a few throughout my years of searching museums, but because I like them so much I decided to make one!  So here is my first attempt.  I used a drill, then a dremel tool and finally a knife to enlarge the cavity so the point would fit in as well as I could get it.  There are some gaps between the point and the bone, but this is my first attempt.  I'm sure I'll get better with some practice.  The bone is possibly from a raccoon or coyote (not really sure) and the point is a Scallorn type arrow point made from Texas flint.  This would be a cool conversation piece to put on your desk at home.

Cool I would like to make one of those.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intentions of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body. But rather to slide in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW WHAT A RIDE!!

Saw a picture of a point driven into the top of the eyesocket on a human skull. I believe it was on the history channel.
If we can't help each other what is the point of being here?

Nice form of art!!!

Russ
Time, dedication, cuts, tons of broken rock, a wife, and perhaps a few girlfriends are some of what it takes in becoming a skilled flint knapper!!!

That would look cool on a pedestal mount where you usually see some brush and a shed antler on it.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

I got to see this up close and personal when Billy came to a flintknapping at my new shop Saturday.  It is really awesome.  Billy does some incredible work.
