an osage recurved self character
« on: April 09, 2007, 11:59:49 am »
From my treasured stash of brown osage, first totally unbacked self product I've gotten from it.  Brown with micro thin rings, very hard and dense.  This is the first time I've edited and posted pics myself since me vision problems worsened so I hope they are the right ones.  61" ntn, 52#/27".  Heated in reflex and curves over an open fire one snowy weekend.  Lower end curved a little funny around a knuckle in the stave and is pullling out a bit at full draw. twisty, curvy piece with upper tip slightly missalligned.  What, me worry?       Cut in arrow shelf and black horn tip overlays.  Serviing threed wrap below the tips for a little contrast.
I'm impressed at the early draw weight versus deeper in the draw.  Really streaks a shaft.

Dave

I cut this tree five years ago.  It was pretty brown even when fresh and really darkens to a purplish brown with exposure.

Great looking bow, Dave. Looks like that tree went through some tough times and came out with lots of character to show for it.

Another beautiful bow, Dave.  I really like the natural shelf, and the unique character.
