I have read that most people use shellac when steam bending a bow tip. I don't have any on hand but I do have a can of lacquer, will this work?

I couldn't tell you if lacquer will work but I know shellac will work. You can buy a spray can of Bulls Eye Shellac for $5 at and paint or hardware store.

you can apply a coat of shellac and it is dry and ready to be steamed in an hour. probably 30 minutes in Arizona, Nate. I use 2 coats before steaming. Good luck to ya brother.

I have no idea why you would want to use anything on the wood for steam bending?
Presumably it's to stop the wood getting too wet?
I've never bothered...no probs
