Get everything sanded nice and flat, score the surface with toothing or hacksaw blade and then wipe it clean with acetone.

Oily wood I clean with acetone ( good Quality) acetone, I sometimes scratch up the surface with a saber saw blade in a vise. Most of the time don't do the later. Denny

Urac is excellent wood to wood glue. I have also use TBIII for hickory and boo backings on oily woods like osage and ipe with good results. I will have to say that Urac is the best.
