Mcalester Army Ammunition Plant draw hunts
« on: July 08, 2010, 11:56:48 pm »
I put in for the Mcalester draw hunt and found out today that I didn't get drawed.  :'(
Just wanted to see if any one has hunted there before. FYI it is traditional archery only.
thanks.

I have never hunted at McAlester but I have heard and read about the trophy buck potential. I'm not a trophy hunter but I would shoot a really big buck if it walked into my kill zone...or at least shoot at him!  ;D
Sorry you didn't get drawn. Try again next year.

I lived near the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant a few years back when I worked for BVZ building the Kiowa Cogeneration Natural Gas Fired Power Plant in Kiowa Oklahoma....beautiful area...deer everywhere too....never knew that they had controlled Hunts there to thin the Herds....man I love the Kiamichi Mountains almost as much as I love the Hills of Tennessee.... :P

I have not hunted it myself, but I know one fella that did a few years back.He killed a 150+ inch buck. BCB,a PA member, has applied there the last 2 years and has'nt got picked yet,but according to him,you accumulate points. He feels sure he'll get picked next season. I've heard it is an incredible place to hunt, that you not only see a lot of deer, but a lot of monster bucks, and, for a traditional only hunt, the success rate is high. God Bless

That sounds like fun. I wonder what the draw chances are for out of state hunters?

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

Won't know till You try it....I am contemplating it...I worked that area for 6 months one year...and the Deer Population even off the Munitions Compound is unreal!

Eddie,if Cody ends up being right,it will probably take 3 years of entering to get picked. But it would be well worth it.Check out their website, there were a bunch of Pope&Young bucks killed in '09.God Bless
