Tru oil over stain
« on: June 26, 2010, 06:24:15 pm »
Can I apply tru oil over stain on a hickory bow?
I put on two coats of Mahogany stain and now I'd like to seal it nice and tight with either tru oil or spar marine varnish.

If your stain is an oil based stain give it plenty of time to cure before you add the Tru-Oil. Read the directions on the can for times. I think it will just slow the Tru-Oil curing if done too soon. I know a guy that incorporates Tru-Oil and oil based stain to make attractive back designs.
