what kind of wood do you guys use to smoke your hides.can you use pine or will the sap mess em up? only hardwood?

I use punky pine because of availability and it works fine. Color will be determined by how long you smoke it ;)

now you tell me, haha. I smoked it for roughly 3-4 hours and it is a pea green color :o pretty cool looking, but not what I expected. gonna try to turn it inside out and smoke the other side tomorrow.

did the other side today. didn't do it as long, maybe 2 hrs. Turned out much more like I expected, yellowish-tan. I think the more smoke you have the darker it will be. Now I have a two-tone buckskin. Looks pretty cool for my first one.
