Quercus marilandica, Blackjack Oak, is a member of the Red Oak family.  Red Oak as a family make great bows - we often recommend Red Oak board bows for beginners, but they make expert grade bows too.  Blackjack is denser than most Red Oaks, and should make great bows if you can find pieces straight enough.  As you know, it's one of the scrubby, shrubby growing oaks, not the classic straight trunked tree.
