Gobblin' Osage Recurve

I am not the first guy to try this, but I love trying to use the beautiful short turkey feathers for something.  Here they are on the back of a recently completed static recurve osage.

Thanks, Bullit and Pat. The bow is 60" long ntn.  It pulls 51# at 28".  It was built from a Mike McGuire stave. Dry heat bent recurves, reinforced with a thin osage lam.  Belly heat treated.  1 1/2"  wide at the fades to 1" 10" from tips, and 5/8" wide at the tips.  I used Titebond I to put down the feathers and then several coats of Poly over them.  The bow is fast and smooth and very maneuverable in tight places.  Maybe I can "decoy" a gobbler with it next season!  Maybe Pappy can tell us who first did this type of deal with the turkey feathers.  He told me, but I have CRS disease here in my old age.

Man, if that means what I think it means...  it just made me laugh out loud!!  Permission to use it in the future, please?  ;D

And that bow looks amazing!  I'm guessing the feathers are purely aesthetic and hold little or no "strengthening" quality to the back?

I don't have access to any turkey, but you've sure given me reason to save tail feathers from ruffed grouse!  That is some beautiful work, could very well get my 1st vote for osage or recurve in a while!

Unusual backing, I like originality though and fantastic colours. Impressive recurves and a nice tiller.

Wow. Really nice work. A super visual effect on a great looking bow. Recurves have always been my favorite kind of bow and you have done a fantasic job. I rarely comment on this or any site but this got me going.
