Flintlock is a generic name for any muzzleloading gun (long gun or sidearm, or even ship's guns/cannons) that are ignited using a silaceous stone to strike a hardened steel plate creating a shower of sparks falling into a priming pan of fine powder, thus igniting the main charge of powder.
My flintlock was a kit from Tennessee Valley Manufacturing, 50 cal, early Lancaster style, swamped Colerain barrel, round bottom button rifling, single trigger built to go off at 2 lbs 11 oz of pull. It has killed four deer already and I haven't quite gotten the finish carving on it yet! Too busy buillding bows.
On the other hand, we may have a late rut this year...and if there is a late rut, I will be out there cow chirping, bugling, and packing a handmade bow, handmade arrows, and a piece of all your spirits in my back pocket.
