I had to play with some of that coral. Here's a blade of raw coral and with all the inclusions I think I was lucky to get anything out of it. It has a slight, natural bend in the middle I was afraid to try and get out since it was all coral cortex . So I left it. Oh, it was a Dalton till I dropped it going in to get the camera, but it's still sharp.

Yep, Wayne. The x is a third up from the bottom. That's where I broke it. I should have left it alone. ;D

Looks good Eddie! Man you guys fired me up with that run. I hear near this next job I'm going to that they have a "trash" pile of flint and other assorted rocks that are useless. If I find it, i'll post some pics.

Well now you have a couple of arrow heads...... 8)  I don't know that any of us would have left it alone.  Should have sent it to smarty pants, (Shannon) and see what he could have done with it. ;)  I had a nice knife blade going the other night, and I just had to see if I could get a knife blade with just percussion, like Claude does, Well I was almost about to achieve it, :o when that last little ridge, I probably could have pressure flaked out, decided to cause a break in the middle. :(  Oh well.  Do you heat treat the whole rock, the spalls, or slabs, or a combination thereof?  And at what temp. for how long?
