Question on marking bow

I am wondering what people use to write info on their bows.  I am almost finished with my first one, and I wanted to put the draw info and such on it so I don't have to attempt to remember the info.  At first I had thought a permanent marker, but I figured that would bleed, so I wanted to know if anyone had some ideas for it.

nathan, go get yourself a SHARPIE PAINT PEN.
they come in many colors,and work great for our purposes.
and they are inexpensive to boot

I used Sharpies for years but they fade over time. I now use India ink(cheap and comes in colors) with an old style pen(available at Wally World or craft stores) or make a quill pen with left over quills from fletch making. I have also made pens with small diameter cane.
  To keep it from bleeding you can lay down a few coats of your regular finish, add the written info and finish over the writing. Do a test piece first before trying it on your bow.
   I usually use Tru-Oil finish on my bows. If I let it dry long enough and sand the area to be written on with very fine sandpaper I can write directly on the finish. Sometimes I will spray satin poly over the area to be written on, write the info and then seal it with another spray of poly before adding the finish. Brush on poly would probably work too.

well ive been seeing alot of toms and jakes on a daily basis
and at the same times during the day.they are not responding to calls or decoys.
although i did get to take a shot with a self bow on friday,mised but none the same i got a shot off.

so its gonna be more like a fall hunt from here on out(9 days left to make it happen),time to set up an ambush attack.
i dont care for that kind of turkey hunting,but if thats  how they wanna play it i'll play thier game.
besides the wife realy needs a chance to loose an arrow at one.

All I've ever used is Sharpies. I neverf thought about then fading. I'll have to check some of my older  bows. Jawge

I use a Sharpie Ultra fine.  Like Pat said it does fade over time.

I use a sharpie also,I tried the paint pin but had trouble with them running when putting a finish over them. I have had them fad a bit over time,especially with Osage as it gets darker,I just have Miss Joanie write over it as reseal.

I use a Sharpie or paint pen. The Sharpie will fade a little, but I've got a bow going on ten years old that the Sharpie markings still look good on. As Pat said, do the marking on the first layer of finish, not the bare wood.

I use a pyrograph pen and burn the info on- you just have to have a steady hand as there's no turning back. Looks good too. Use it for marking up arrows also.

I'm with AllanM, just started using the woodburning pen myself.  They aren't real expensive to get and they have alot of uses.  I've burned in some names for people on handle risers and it does have a really nice look.

If you really want to do a neat lettering job, get an calligraphy pen with an extra fine tip and use archival white ink. I put a few coats of Tru-Oil on first before I letter and three or more coats over the lettering after it dries.. Archival white ink is an acrylic ink so oil or solvent based finishes won't cause it to smear.

This ink really stands out on osage, especially after it darkens with age.

india ink pen. you'll be suprised how rich and distinct the writting looks from one of these compared to a sharpie.
