First intentional Clovis
« on: May 11, 2010, 12:38:46 am »
Well I finally made a finished point from the rock I brought back from glass buttes. Been mainly refining the preforms into bifaces lately.

Well I made the first clovis I have ever done. Actually picked up a thick hunk of rock and said to myself 'I'm gonna make a clovis out of this.'

Really happy with how it turned out. First flute was sweet and long. Lost a bit of it when I smashed up the second flute. Ended up getting a double on the second and called it good 'nuf.

Wow. That is sweet.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intentions of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body. But rather to slide in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW WHAT A RIDE!!

Good job, Wade-looks great. A lot of the Eastern Clovises (Clovii??) had those multiple flutes just like that.

Progress might have been all right once but it's gone on for far too long.

Looks great Wade! My attempts have always ended up with broken points :D
Got that point yesterday too!  You didn't have to do that, I gave you the rock...not loaned it 8)   It's sharp! I just might shoot something with that one 8)   Thank you!
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Man setup is a lot harder to do on that rhyolite than on the obsidian. Imagine that.

Here is my first attempt at a rhyolite clovis. Didnt work out so well. But was fun tryin.

actually now looking at my nipple I didnt have it setup very well. angle was wrong. It probably would have fluted if I had fixed it. live and learn. oh well.

Actually I ground the base and base edges after reading up on them. Looks even better now.

You can't win 'em all, Wade. The first point looks great.  Rhyolite is some aggravating stuff to work, but when you get it right, the points are awesome. Nice effort.
