Sugarberry Hackberry...S.Texas. Had some natural R/D so I went with it.
50#, 62" ...old man....

Thanks guys....it shoots real well. I like hackberry although you have to make 'em a bit thicker than some other woods 'cause they're so "springy". This one is very accurate at 20-30 yds, Tom

How wide is it? I have some hackberry drying. Did it turn colors as it dried?

It's about 1-1/2" at fades and tapers to the levers at ~8" from the tips. Yes it darkens a bit although some trees change color a lot and some stays fairly white...don't know why, I like it to turn a dark gray. Seems to be stiffer wood if it turns gray. I stained the bow with Huisache bark...an old Indian/Pioneer dye used for cloth and leather too.

Nice bow, I like the thin tips. hackberry must be fairly hard wood to make that bow at 62"

What kind of tree is it?

Thanks Pappy and Oldbow... honored. Dragonman, Hackberry is considered a hardwood, although it's fairly soft compared to others. I like it's toughness and resilience. Once you get a good Hackberry bow tillered and it's pretty clear, you don't much have to worry about it breaking. It needs to age a while, though. Down here, the "Sugarberry" Hack is a nice tree, I have 2 in my yard 'cause they make good shade and live a long time (native). You can tell Sugarberry from regular Hackberry by it's bark...smoother with only a few "warts".

Inspiring,
I have cut a few hackberry trees this spring and this really lights my fire. That is the kind of bow that brought me to this forum, primitive.
