130#@26" elm warbow

Throughout the coldest winter I remember I haven't spend too many hours making bows since last fall, as I usually work outside making bows. (3 months of -25'C average, first snow october, hopefully last snow today...)

Anyways, I've had some hours every now and then working on this elm bow. I'm not able to look at the weight while pulling it further than 26", thats why I still haven't measured it at 30-32" (If it holds 32", I think 30" will do.) It held 120#@23", 110#@20-21", and 100#@18". From this I guess it comes close to 150#@30"

Wanted to make this bow to see what good quality elm would end up with if made with the same dimensions as one of the MR bows. I had to take it down a bit from the original measurements of the MR bow in order to have at least a reachable goal to manage a full draw some day. I also gave it a bellytoast and equalled the tips. (One had reflex, the other deflex). I didn't measure it while it had the original MR dimensions, but I was unable to pull it any further than +/- 15".

I have some more work to do on the finish before I'm pleased, but I want it to end up with a "rough" look. I don't think it suits a "furniture-finish"

I'll see if I can take some more pics when I get home from work and everything else "non bow related" stuff I have to do today. Not able to do a full draw yet though...

I could try to get a picture from me pulling it on the weight though. (Only my wife is very pregnant carrying two babies inside, so she's probably asleep again when I'm back home..)

That's a great achievement for a white wood! Where was the elm harvested? What are the dimensions and the profile?

The elm was harvested where I live, in Tangen (Norway). Not at home right now, I'll do some measurements when I get home

Hey Nidrinr,
I've got a set of twins that are about 8 1/2 years old now.  Your comment about a very pregnant wife that is probably sleeping brought back a lot of memories for me.  You are in for a wild ride.  Enjoy !

Bow drawn to about 27"-28". Right side is the upper limb. Tips look a bit stiff, but they're reflexed.

Your elbow looks too low when you draw back and needs to mover back in a circular motion.  I appreciate you're a little over bowed and just doing it for a laugh but you would get it back a bit further.  It's an interesting bow, did you heat treat it all over?

Hehe, I know my attempt at drawing this bow is done with a clumsy technique and classifies as "comedy"   
(I know the tecnique is wrong, and this is not normally how I draw, but being unable to get passed the point where I get "into" the bow, I actually got it further using this clumsy draw.)

The bow is heated all over, and I guess due to that it don't follow the string much. (About 1,5") I looked at the tiller again today, and I'm considering to adjust it a bit. (Even though that would be leaving the exact measurements from the MR bow) I think it's not bending enough toward the tips.
