I've been seeing a lot of these shrubs around and I like the look of them.  I've been through my field guide and nothing looks quite right.  Leaves looked Olivey to me but the rest does not match up.  This one was growing on the top of a hill at the edge of the woodline.  Most of the ones I have seen grow on the outer edges of thicker woods.  Not sure if I plan on doing anything with them but admiring but still am curious as to what I am looking at.  Thanks!

Autumn olive (Eleagnus umbellata.) It's an invasive non-native shrub that was formerly planted for wildlife food and erosion control. Now on the invasive exotic/noxious weed list in most states. The shoots make decent arrows.

Thanks for the help.  State DNR site says I should get to clearing this stuff out.  We'll have to see what all I can come up with as far as uses for the wood...

no idea about autumn olive, but russian olive made me a great bow.
