Very nice, I like BW, too, but had problems with frets on some of the bows I made. It's a light wood and has a good cast.
Never steamed it; is it easy to steam??

hey Ken,
Along with medicinewheel's ? , how does the R/D design compare to the mollegabet for cast, smoothness and speed ? I'd like to know because I have not built a r/d from the walnut. Thanks
Rich

thanks everyone , med. it bends easy with steam ,just keep it heating for a while so it doesnt tear the fibers. Rich i did a comparison with the mollegabet you sent me it is an inch longer pulls 55lb at my draw length and holds an inch higher brace hieght . there is a noticable difference in weight but not way away from each other in mass. 25 yrds the bows sent arrows into a stump that were touching seems to have nearly equal cast. i guess the light tips and reflex of the 45 lb bow bought speed near the 55lber . little less hand shock on the RD prob the light tips. either way love black walnut and want some more . thanks everyone again without ya'll id be breakin em still

Ken back when I was a sawyer we threw down the chipper walnut and a lot of others that make good wood like ash oak locust etc... I wish I was more involved then or I'd have a mountain of staves and arrow shafts!  OH HUM the good old days. :'( :'( :-\

thanks jawge, if you like it ,it must be right , i found a new tillering tool on the last two bows 1 by 2 board bout 16 inches long with industrial strength double sided tape i can change out strips of different grit emory cloth and i use it like a rasp on final tillering really helps keep limb smooth with now highs and lows!

Good looking bow. I've been interested in black walnut for awhile, glad to see someone working with it. Maybe I'll get off my duff and do one.
