Limb crack help needed - Pics added

I'm trying to salvage my second attempt at a linen-backed red oak board bow. After about 50 shots, it's developed a crack along the back just under the linen backing. Following advice I found looking through old posts here, I've filled it with CYA glue, but don't know if i should wrap it or not. If so, can I use the same wally world hemp twine I used for the handle, or is that too thick? Would my nylon no. 4 serving string work?

Thanks for any and all help. If it weren't for this board I'd have never gotten even this far!

The Twine would be too thick...JMO...I would use the Serving String....put it on tight...and then soak it good with Super Glue and let it set till dry...make sure to go past the Crack in both directions a half inch or so....just for good measures

I like serving thread for wraps. Soak the thread with superglue after you finish the wrap.

I learned on here when I first started attemping to build bows that rounding off the corners really helps prevent cracks like that. Have a good one. Mike

Thanks Mike - just how much rounding? I sanded the edges down a bit, but apparently, not enough. Also, anyone have any preference for the number of layers of linen fabric? I'm using just one, but it's not thick fabric (think appropriate weight for a shirt or pants) and I'm wondering  if that's enough to have much benefit.

Also depending on position of crack a rawhide patch sometime will do the trick!

everything I've seen says one layer is sufficient, but I used 2 layers of linen on the bow that Didn't break. For me, that's what I'm doing from now on. =)  Also, I've seen anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4 inch of rounding. I didn't do that on "the bow that lived", but I will on my next.

Best of luck; any chance of seeing pics of more of your bow?

Thanks, the serving bandage seems to be working! I may give the next bow a double layer of linen, just to see.

Here are some pics of the finished product.



Tiller is far from perfect, but, as I was at 37# at 28" I figured I'd stop before I really screwed it up.
