Here's a little bird point I made with totally abo tools. No copper flakers or horeshoe nail notchers were used to make this point....only bone and antler. This goes to show ya what you can do with abo tools if you are very careful and set up your platforms just right.
This is basically a replicated Eastgate point used by the northern Paiute in Oregon and Nevada. It's made from a small, thin flake of dacite. It's really sharp and pretty thin. The barbs are really delicate so I worked very slowly and carefully so I didn't break them off. But what still blows my mind is that I've seen some original Eastgate points that are much thinner than this point...almost paper thin....and they're still in one piece. How those Paiutes were able to make such delicate and thin points without breaking them is something I still can't figure out.
Just goes to show you that even as "advanced" as we are, we still cannot equal the skill of people we consider "primitive".
