This is a bow im working on for my friend Josh. 65" ntn, currently still on the long string 55lbs @ 17". Havnt been able to brace it yet, close but not quite. This is the most reflex deflex that ive glued into a bow, so im not quite sure what the profile is supposed to be looking like. To me, it looks like just off the fades its bending a bit too much, especially on the lower limb.

You folks are really cranking out some sweet r/d bows lately, and im hoping you can help walk me through this one.   

We're shooting for 60lbs @ 27". The handle is layed up hickory back, black walnut veneer the entire length of the bow, b/w power lam, another full length b/w veneer, osage core, b/w veneer, bocote, padauk, b/w veneer, padauk, b/w accent. He will be puttung on handle overlays after tillering as well.

Anyhow, enough talk here are the pics.

Yes it does look like it is bending a bit to much out of the fades on both limbs.. I would work the mid and outer limbs some more before trying to brace it..

i was hoping you would chime in David. thanks for the advice. i probably wont be able to get back to it untill friday, but ill do what you said and post my progress.

scrape mid too outer 20 scrapes both sides evenly and recheck....continue and take out all flat spots untill all bow bends evenly..that should be a pretty bow....snake

I wouldn't touch the outer limbs.  The limb on the right could use a bit more scraping from the fades out to mid limb

thanks for the suggestions guys. we tackled her today and actually got it to full draw all in one afternoon. everything went pretty well, no reall problems. the tiller might not be perfect, but i can see the whole limb bending while i excercise it. no  isolated spots. weve got the handle overlays glued on, and will be shaping the handle and tips shortly.

any suggestions are more than welcome. it came out at 64# @ 27". we were hoping for 55 to 60# so we still have some room for adjustments if we need to.





i dont have updated braced and un-braced pics yet, but the unbraced looks alot like the first one, just a little less reflex.

Looks like she's coming along nicely, the handle woods will  really will turn out looking nice when finished.

wow thanks for the complements. He picked out all the wood combo for the handle, and i think its gonna look pretty good. he wants to shape the handle, so ive gotta give it to him later today, but i got the tip overlays glued on (black walnut and paduak) this morning. when we get it all finnished ill post some more pics, and another full draw.

I have no clue about tillering a R/D bow.  But to me, isn't that alot of bending midlimb.  That full draw profile is almost like a nonR/D profile.

But again, I never done one.  Just asking for sake of learning.

i was actually just looking at the picture again and thought i should do some scraping on the inner part of the upper limb. given the unbraced profile, i think it comes around just about right... maybe... but im deffinately not an expert!
