little bit ah knappin (more pics down page)
« on: April 07, 2010, 11:55:38 pm »
What a beautiful day once the wind died down, i went out with my antler tools and a few spalls and knocked out a few blades. i got a wide blade out of burlington chert and a long blade of dacite. both mounted in antler handles. and both very very sharp. the dacite knife is scary sharp. its a big ol guy at 9 1/2" long while the burlington knife is 7" long. thanks for lookin- Ryan

roger- I have seen some small pieces off moss agate that the natives brought in and knapped but its really looks like tough stuff. there is some a couple hours from here in the missouri river, so im told, but not real sure i want to dive in after it......really cold especially now, just after ice out.
Venom- thanks but i certainly cant take credit on the paw print. many others have done it before me..lol

They are all really nice.  I also like the look of point/blades when some of the cortex is left.  Very cool!

Ryan, how does the elk antler compare to whitetail for billets? I read and heard that elk was inferior to moose and whitetail-not as hard? Looks like you don't have any issues from the points you produce. Thanks Tracy
