Anybody want to chime in on the working differences between Argentina Osage and American Osage? I just glued up a little Hickory backed Argentina Osage D bow.

I really like working with the Argentina. I think you can get away with a bit more with it than you can with American osage... As for scraping and such it is about the same to work with..

I've use Argetine osage also, and I didn't notice any difference. If anything, it had straighter grain, and less knots.

Family: Moraceae
Argentina Osage:
Maclura tinctoria
American Osage:
Maclura pomifera
Maclura tinctoria seems more elastic, but thats all. Works almost exactly same.

Good wood to work with, Argentine osage will chrysal if you really push it. I think the American osage is slightly more elastic. I liked it real well on boo backed d/r bows but didn't like it as well as the osage on some shorties I was playing with. Not really a lot of difference. Steve
