pyramid cross section
« on: March 29, 2010, 11:08:57 pm »
Hi all,
I'm working on a couple of pyramid style bows as seen in TBB I pg. 67, and TBB II, pg. 29.  All the corners are rounded over, but as each limb nears the end, the cross section of the tip will go essentially circular.  I plan on wrapping a glued cord nock at the tip as in the above articles (and Nomadic Pirate's guava bow).  Tips are between 1/4" and 3/8" wide and thick.
My question is, will this round section compromise the back grain too much, or is it OK?  See below for reference, not to scale.
Thanks,
Frode

If it doesn't rap the lintel, it might not be a longbow.

No not at all. In fact, it's done to keep the corners from lifting splinters. Jawge

Frode,  I know you said that the drawings are not to scale, but it is very important you realize the thicker part of the handle has too extend further up the limbs!   Your drawings show the fade starting right at the beginning of the limbs.  That's a sure way to break the bow.    Ron

Thanks everyone,
Jawge, I thought maybe so, but I hadn't yet fully rounded up to the tip of the limb.
Okie, Agreed!
M-P, Yeah, I've been fiddling with that part, just kind of eyeballing and estimating from the TBB pics.  Fingers crossed.
