 Thanks, guys, the more info the better! By the way, this "Sheoak" that I started this post with does have tassle like bunches of fine needles, and when the
bark is cut, it 'BLEEDS" a redish sap. Is this the tree you mentioned? "bowstring"

does nothing grow under these trees? nothing grows under sheoaks over here. and not a very big tree.

 As best I can tell, the Sheoak doesn't inhibit undergroth to any noticable degree,,, More like your usual S. Fla. "jungle". In re to KenH,, I'm new to this area
so my knowledge of the local trees is limited for the time being!! I will learn more as time passes I'm sure. Will keep my eyes peeled for Gum and eucaliptus though.

Is this the tree that is often found on very sandy soils along beaches all over the world? With really spiky round seeds - they are really sore to step on barefoot!

 Tommy D, Thanks for the webpage, Interesting part about the groove in the bows back, similar to the cable channel on some Eskimo bows. Gives me idea's,,,
