58" Hickory/purpleheart perry reflex pyramid bow for girlfriend
« on: February 28, 2010, 03:12:24 pm »
This is a hickory backed purple heart pyramid bow that's perry reflexed. A zebra wood piece in the handle and purpleheart overlays on the tips. It's 58" and <40#@26". about 2" wide at the fades and straight taper to 5/16" at the tips. It started out with about 3" of reflex and that went down to about <1". Hickory backing strip is 1/4" and the purple heart started out as a half inch but went down to about an 1/8". At first I was worried that this bow would take forever because of the stories about how purple heart is so hard to work with but it wasn't that bad a piece. Then I was afraid that the bow wouldn't have enough mass to make it all the way. In the end it all worked out though. Draws smooth and shoots super fast with these light arrows I have but also shoots my heavier arrows with good force. I'm really happy with how this bow turned out. Its the first bow where I got the handle exactly the way I wanted it. My girlfriend Kendra thought it would be nice to take the pics of her with the bow before we went to her winter dance. She really likes it and hopefully we'll be able to go hunting with it sometime. Thanks for looking.

A fine bow and a very good work at the handle and the tips … and a very interesting dress for bow shooting  ;D

nice looking bow,love the tips
very unique attire too for a ful draw, better than the sweat pants lol

do you think if you went with a thinner backing lam that the bow would still hold up well with the purple heart?

Thanks guys.

sailordad - I think it would but I think the bow would be a little thinner as well seeing as how there would be more purpleheart so its going to take a little less thickness to get a higher weight.

Now as for the Bow....Looks Sweet...I have always like the Color of Purpleheart....but I don't like the way I got sick on the Dust when I made one from it....... :P

Well martin archery did it, why can't I?  ;)  I thought it would be fun since its her's and she liked the idea. Thanks.

El Destructo - I do as well but I'm glad I didn't have that problem. Do the shaving's smell fruity to you?

Gordon - Purely coincidence but it worked out okay.  ;D

Great looking bow, great looking girlfriend,If she likes to shoot a bow you might want to think about keeping her. What about hunting and fishing, is she into that ?

venisonburger - She used to go hunting a lot with her dad but doesn't too much anymore and she does like fishing. Very outdoorsy.
