March Flintknapping Challenge: Arrow points, your choice!
« on: February 26, 2010, 02:14:09 pm »
Since the flintknapping challenge seems to have kinda fizzled out, I thought I'd grab it by the horns, give it a good shake, and resurrect this fun part of the flintknapping challenge.  Since I'm an arrow point nut, I figured we could make this one a bit more open.  Make an arrow point, whatever kind you like and post a pic of it.  You like Cahokia points?  Then knap a few and post 'em. How about side notched points?  They have a place here too.  Clunky or refined, crude or exquisite, we want to see everybody's work.  Some people on here are intimidated by other knappers, feeling their work isn't up to par with what other, more experienced knappers produce.  Well....DON'T BE!!

Wherever your favorite arrow points are found....western or eastern, northern or southern, if you like it and it is considered an arrow point, then make it and post it here!

I'm gonna start this one off with some Gunther barbed points I made, as well as one Perdiz point. As a lot of my true arrow points reflect, these are kinda "abo" looking, with some asymmetry and a kinda "rough" appearance.  These were made on small waste flakes that would have otherwise been thrown away.  Enjoy...now get to knapping!

im amazed that trying to make an average sized hunting point was so damn hard to do today. ive gotten so accustomed to larger blades i had a bear of a time keeping this one clean. its my version of a levanna. i just notch em so i dont have to repeatedly wrap the head. the levanna is the northeastern version of a late woodlands triangle so its what ive come to use.
