Backing Glue?
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:50:18 pm »
Will tite-bond 11 or 111 work for gluing boo backing on maple or a red oak board bow? Gonna try the boo back for my 2nd bow try. Wonder if I'll get as lucky with the 2nd as I did the 1st..lol

Either will work just fine for that Backing....no problem...lots use Recorsinal or other Filler Glues...but I like the TiteBonds myself...

I use nothing but TB3 for everything...wood backings, rawhide, tip overlays, risers...

I'm with El D, I have not used anything but TB II forever, haven't ever had a glue failure. For what ever it's worth

One of the things I don't like about resorcinol is the purple glue line it leaves, and you have to mix it. The TB glues are great... chap, clean up with water, no mixing.

Smooth on epoxy for me. I had resorcinol fail once and tb 3 fail once. Once was enough for me ;) Maybe it was something I did wrong though. Tb 3 is good stuff but it has to be a smooth surface. I like to groove the surfaces for a much stronger interlocking bond. Thats why I like epoxy. Tb recommends a smooth surface and on super hard and oily wood like ipe I dont think it sinks in enough. I could be wrong :)

I like Urac 185!
