rock run today

got a good load of rock today found a couple that was to heavy to carry out and had to break it in half

I'd say!  How come it's so clean? The rock I get is always covered with mud/dirt! ;D

yes it  speckled rhyolite and its clean because its laying on the river bank full of rock

Thats a good load.
 I went back to my KY blue spot today and walked all over and found a few more outcrops some good pieces here and there but not much. i went back to my original spot and loaded up. I'd say close to 400 pounds.
 Sure was a good day to hunt rock. 68* here.

I found a good spot for what I assume is costal plains chert its dark gray rather than caramel like I found last year.Ron

Good lookin haul! How does that speckled stuff work? All I've tried is a little chunk of the green.

Paul, the speckled (porphyritic) is grainer and harder to work than the green stuff. The specks are phenocrysts of feldspar, quartz, or pyrite in some varieties. It works pretty good with wood. You can make nice bigger points from it, but it's not as good for smaller stuff. Most of the Savannah River, Stanley, and Guilford points in central NC were made from the speckled stuff.
