what were the poundage of your bow hillbilly?  i honestly just threw this one together.  it was either 3 or 4 strands, not split.  i just twisted them together.  they do stretch a bit, and it takes a bit to get to the proper length.  i shortened it by just twisting in one direction.  one day i will make a proper string for the bow.

other than that, i dont know too much about making a bow string :-\  ill have to look up the terms you said..  been concentrating on my arrows lately.

i mad a flemish string or two from this stuff.
a bit stretchier than B-50 and seemed to fray faster. i don't like it
ive used the 30lb spools and i always do 4x bow weight

for instance 50lb bow X 4=200lb
using a 30lb spool this =7 strands=210 lbs so i do an 8 strand flemish

El D, I've made strings for 65# bows with 14 strands. Like Steve said, it is stretchy. But I prestretch my strings for about a week with Dive weights.

Can't see how that would work...the Artificial Sinew is Waxed...so the Hide Glue would not absorb or stick to it....

The artificial sinew is just waxed nylon thread, like Mike said, the glue and wax wouldn't combine too good, and you wouldn't get any of the benifits of real sinew. As for strings, it'll work in a pinch, but B-50 is cheaper and works much better.

I think Eddie is traveling for the next day or so.  Yes, any weight will work as long as you can it attach to your bowstring (S hook with wire/string works).  A bucket with sand in it makes a nice weight, you can add sand by the grain if you want and it doesn't slosh like water.  I've used the bucket method for testing fishing knots.

When I make a B-50 string I pre-stretch them by attaching the loop to a cup hook, pull the string as tight as I can by hand and rub a piece of leather up and down the string vigorously. This heats up the string, melts the wax into the string and stretches it a pretty good bit. Since I started doing this my strings only stretch a little but generally level out after a much shorter time.

Pat, that's a little different approach than what I've done.

Doing a flemish, I'll cut all the strands and stretch each individually.
After the string is on the bow, I'll twist it up a bit short (1/4" ish) then I'll burnish as you mentioned.
I think the string (for me) comes out rounder in the end.
Burnishing seems to make the string longer too on the bow. Probably from getting the strands tighter together and getting some of the wax out. I'll get very little stretch when it's ready for use.

Just another way to skin the same cat.  ;)
