I was just re-reading this thread and remembered something from about 22 years ago in Vermont.  I'm not sure how the seasons run now, but back then, the rifle season for bear started in September, ending in December, and completely overlapping the archery-only season for deer in October.  Two of my buddies were bowhunting, one in a treestand, and the other stalking.  The stalker came across a bear hunter aiming his rifle at the guy in the tree.  When he asked him what he thought he was doing, the rifle hunter answered "Do you see that bear?" :o  Be careful out there, cause you never know who might be out there with you.  Maybe Dick Cheney's hunting your area.   ;)

So, does anyone know what the full story behind the pictures is?

If memory serves me right, the gentleman that has the arrow embedded in his head was the camera man. He was sitting in front and below the bowhunter and stood up to at the wrong time.  From what I remember reading at the time, they said that if he had been farther away the outcome would not have been good.  As it was he lost a part of his skull, but did survive.

 That makes more sense.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

So, I guess the hunting video they were working on didn't happen, then?  :D

why did being closer make the situation better? was the bow not done with its power stroke, or is it a compound thing?

ya, I remember seeing those several times through out the years....funny the story changes every time you see them though.  ::)  What I heard was the guy with the arrow in his head was his guide and the hunter wasnt even suposed to be shooting unless the guide gave him the go ahead. Well I guess the guide went to stand up to tell the hunter the animal was not a "Shooter" and the guy released his arrow and shot him in the back of the head..... :P
Its November, I'm gone hunt'in.......
Osage is still better.....

That was completely unfair and an inflammatory comment that I demand the moderators remove from this thread!  I mean, come on!!  Cheney was only doing what we have all dreamt of....he shot a lawyer!

If we have anymore derogatory about attorney's, uh,,I'll have to do something.  ;) I googled Snopes today and couldn't hit the right combination of words to get the real truth. I'm curios now.

I really hope I am more aware of my surroundings than the shooter in this thread.  Seriously,  I committed to eating everything I shoot long ago and I would feel terrible eating a friend's backstraps.
