Snakey Osage Bow
« on: February 10, 2010, 08:58:27 pm »
Well it's been a long while since I posted a bow...mainly because it's been a long time since I made one! I finally finished one up so here it is. This was from a sliver of osage that I had split off of another stave that was cut back in '06 so I guess it was pretty well seasoned. The bow is 62 inches tip to tip, 1 1/4 inches wide at the fades and tapers to 3/8 inch at the tips. The tip overlays are cow horn. The skin is from a Timber Rattler, it's one skin that was wide enough to split up the middle and put one piece on each limb. The handle is wrapped in hemp cord and singed with a match to make it darker. The bow is finished with seven coats of tung oil, draws 45 lbs at 26 inches and is holding one inch of reflex after unstringing and relaxing. I cut this piece of wood in Kansas and I'm planning to take it back where it came from this May to try and shoot a turkey with it. Hope ya'll like it!

SWEET

I love the snakeskin backed snaky bows. The contrast with the orange of the osage is Sweet as well. Those overlays are nice too.
Good job
