Mixing Feathers

I just looked at DanaM's new arrows.  Very nice.  Made me think about using feathers from different birds though.  I expect as long as the different feathers are not radically different stiffness wise it shouldn't be a problem?  Maybe it doesn't make a difference even if they are?  Anyone ever have any problems at all?

just make sure they come from the same side of both birds... example:  left wing/side of tail with left wing/side of tail... otherwise they will fly all wompty-woo.

LOL no wompty woo arrows here.  More concerned about one flight over powering the other and making the nock end spiral all the way to the target.

I've not seen any problems in my experiences. When I was first starting out years ago, I used whatever feather I could find - turkey, pigeon, chicken, goose. I even put some feathers on backwards, just so that the curvature would all be the same on the arrow, and used several diferent combinations. They all flew just as good as my all-right or all left wing secundary turkey feathered arrows do now. Just make sure they are all curved the same, trim to equal size, and use whatever you got!

I commonly use goose feathers with a turkey cock feather or vice versa, no problems. I guess if you had feathers that were radically different, might cause some flight issues.

That's about what I figured.  I was just thinking about it is all.  Couldn't imagin it really being that much of a problem since nobody ever mentions it.  Just human nature to overthink things.  I NEVER do that!   ;D

 I don't think it really matters if your arrows are tuned to your bow properly.
