Another Elm Warbow
« on: February 02, 2010, 04:50:00 pm »
This bow was made for a guy in VT, he wanted a draw weight of 100# @ 32".  The wood from this tree was noticeably stiffer than the other bow I made last month.  The dimensions of this bow are similar to the other warbow but it has 20# more draw weight.  The bow is 72" long, a bit over 1 3/8" wide and just under 1" thick, no horn nocks on this bow.  I'm not going to bother posting a picture of me drawing the bow freehand since I can only pull it back to about 26".  The full draw is as I was tillering it and a 2 handed pull.  Here's some pictures

Marc, That is a perfect tiller on that bow!  I really enjoy looking at your bows, they are an inspiration.   :)  -josh

Incredible Mark, I can never figure out how you reflex those war bows as much as you do and still keep them stable. Mine always want to flip on me if I go past about 2". Hpefully your customer will report back to us onhow far he can cast an arrow with it. Steve

Sometimes there are stability issues at first but those work them selves out as you tiller the bow out.  Getting the string tracking pretty well dead on helps also

The overlays are Horn Frank.  There's no horn nocks though

Marc, I m pretty sure that with this tiler and those stiff reflexed tips its a blast.
I can see why you made it in this shape, the string angle is reduced and so is the fact its shorter than otherwise comfortable for these weights.
Very nice.
I too have found that some other woods are in many respect better than most yew I can normally lay my hand on.

Bows like this are not all that hard to build, in fact I wrote an article on the building of this bow
