Spontanously Disassembled (Pignut RIP)
« on: January 31, 2010, 06:48:36 pm »
I should have taken a friends advice and went rabbit hunting today. Instead, thought I'd finish tillering a little 60 inch Hickory that I'd been working with over the past month now. The bow was holding most of its reflex, the tiller looked great, almost done, and just when I hit that final 28'' mark on the tiller tree this happen. No need to call in the CSI team because I know exactly what happen. Although you can't see it now, I did set the bow back about an inch and in the process put a clamp mark dead center of the handle. That's where it blew. After about 10 mins. when I stopped crying it was pretty funny that it still had the string on it so thought I'd take a few pictures. This was number 37 over the past year and half and I think its time to let this rest for awhile.

Sorry to hear that but the bright side is you could just about hang that on the wall as art!

Yes it was quite spectacular. I took the string off and just placed all the slivers back into place. There was only on little piece missing, its probally stuck in the ceiling in the garage. I haven't had the heart to make it back to ground zero yet to check out the rest of the scene.

El, yes, things were pretty tight in that area.  :o

The way it split, it appears to have been some straight grained wood. So have you decided yet; tomato stake or firewood?
