sinew backed oak
« on: January 31, 2010, 06:29:23 pm »
First off this piece of oak had a twist in one limb and when I go to draw these bows I tend to cant them even when I take the picture. I dont like the olympic stand when drawing or shooting these bows. So, in the photos they look their off but tillering wise they are not off. So this here is a 54 inch nock to nock. It is Oregon white oak. Has corded dogbane for the handle. The tips are also sinew wrapped. It has two layers of Elk sinew on it and is also rawhide backed. This was the first time I put rawhide backing on a bow and I went through some old post on how to put rawhide backing on it. I went with the directions that Pat B gave a couple people and it worked out great. SO thanks Pat. Hope you enjoy, John

Awsome bow John.  Gotta love that style.  I am absolutly obsessed with them.  I think you are too.  What is the poundage on that bad boy?

great job. But one question, why the rawhide over the sinew?

Well looks like you learned good.  I like the way you can still see there is sinew under there.
