Ash Flatbow Just Finished

This is the "sister stave" to the Ash bow I made for my buddy's son that's in the Marines in the Middle East. I put some Purple Heart and Lacewood tip overlays on it , and an Osage palm swell custom fit to my grip - talk about comfortable!!! I incorporated the arrow rest into the Osage and finished the grip in leather. 67"NTN - 2" fades to 1/2" tips - 57#@27". Shoots Great!!! Has just over an inch of follow. Really pleased with it. Oh yeah - I blended Golden Oak 5 parts to one part Red Mahagony stain and rubbed Tru Oil on by finger.  Sorry about the pics - tough to get quality for me .

Not that I know anything... I think it looks pretty darn good!
Stain really help along this and the way the back is finished? Looks excellent to me.
My impression has been Ash is too plain Jane.

riarcher - that's exactly what I was hoping to do - "dress up" this Ash stave - I'm really happy it turned out the way it did. Thanks for the positive input !!

looks great.  I love how that osage looks in the handle.  Beautiful grain pattern.  Can't wait to see it racked.   :) -josh

I love the look of Ash the diference in color on the growth rings, I also think it gets a bad rap as a quality bow wood.

Congrats on your new bow it looks great, I guess my only advice is to round them edges a little more :)

DanaM - I know that Ash can follow the string pretty good, so I make sure it's below 8%. On this one, I did what Parnell did on his Hackberry a couple of weeks ago, but didn't put as much reflex in as he and Mullet did. Because there is no grain run out, I just rounded the sharp edge down on the limbs and didn't think that I had to go full round on them. I'm going out in a little bit to stretch the string and enjoy some frigid NY winter air - it was 3 degrees this morning.
