i like notched hand pads.

just thought id put this up. i know there are alot of threads about rubber and leather hand pads floating around, and personally i always used leather (keep in mind im a beginner so this aint exactly an expert oppinon) but i picked up the notched rubber pad for my ishi stick and tried preasure flakeing on it after reading that the notch allows the flake to run without touching anything. i dont know if it was something of my doing or if it was actually the difference in pads but my flakes ran ALOT further. i like it.  ;D

I've not used a notched hand pad, but I really need to get one.  I've heard also that the flake will detach more cleanly instead of making tiny step fractures (or hangnails) when they terminate.  I might pick one up at the next knap-in that I go to.....

billy make one don't buy, all ya need is chunk of conveyer belt or even a piece of a tire, cut a notch in it, I like to glue a piece of 1/4" wood to the back for rigidity,
PM sawfiler I know he can get ya some chunks of conveyer belt :)

Anybody got a picture of one of those notched pads?  I'm new to all this, other than watching a few videos and some reading, so far.

 Type in a search,"rubber pads" it's about 6 or 7 pages deep . There are some good pictures.
