rock id please
« on: January 17, 2010, 12:48:19 am »
well i while back i posted pics of a point that i made from some kinda rock that i got in a box from jesse
it was my first attempt at parallel flaking, turned out pretty decent to

i realy liked working that rock and have made another point from it shortly after my first one.
i have no idea what the rock was,but some said i should post pics if i had any more of it.
i do have a few cobbles left and snapped a couple of pics of it
so now i can start to whacking on it
but first i would like to know what kind of rock it is as i would really like to get more of it.
this stuff works quit well for me,maybe thats why i like it.but it also just sems to come out with a nice edge that needs little working after words to get it sharp
anyhoo heres some pics
thanks for peeking

Tim, I don't know anybody who has it for sale.  It's generally pretty hard to come by in any kind of quantity.  You might ask over on PP, or check at kentuckyflintworks.com.  Dennis Kerns is the only fella I know who might have any, and it probably won't be cheap :-\
I've picked up a little of it myself, but it's about 75 miles away and scarce.  I got lucky last summer and found some around a dried up pond.
It comes in nodular form, so if you find any it'll likely be sawn.
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

The only other people I know who might possibly have some occasionally would be Ronnie or Justin at kentucky knappers dot com.

jesse,
i am not picky, especially when it comes to good material.with this stuf i plan working it down slow so as not to waste anymore than neccassary.
i dont plan on making any thing large with it,just arrow heads.
i would appreciate it if you could get me some more.
just p.m. me and we will work something out.

thaks again
