Beautiful work!!  It didn't take you long to "arrive" as a knapper.  Keep up the good work and thanks for posting.

thanks everyone  :-[
i think when i got into this primitive stuff, that bow making was just a stepping point for m.it lead me into something that i actually thinki have a little talent for.
i think i am,in a years time,a much better knapper than a bowyer.but i will still scrape on wood from time to time.if for no other reason, just to stay humble  ;)

charles yes it was one of the slabs from you.i was trying for a bigger one.but i pushed on a platform, that i knew i shouldnt, that wasnt quit right and
snapped an inch and a half off on end.
but hey i am happy as a clam with this one

Very nice.

Yes Sir!  That looks like a dandy.  Now do it again with some parallel oblique flaking.
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

thanks Shannon, i have one more slab of this same mahognony obsid.,that i got from stringstretcher.
i hope not to snap it short this time, and yes the next one i plan on parallel oblique flaking
that may just be the down fall, but hey i aint gonna get that technique figured out if i dont keep trying it ;)

charles, you just need  to practice more.
you should see my points from this time last year
thats how i got to the level i am at,which really i am not all that good.you should see the ones i never take pics of.
i have only been knapping for a year, but i try and get atleast 2hrs a day in as a minimum, somedays especially in the summer months.
i will spend 6-8 hours knapping outside.
its like they say "knapping is a hobby of tonnage".you gotta go thru alot of rock to get decent and and even more to get good and even more to get great
this one was made from the slab that you had already turned the edge on.i looked at that and asked my self why you gave up on it.
you had done and excellent job turning the edge.
one of the biggest issues newbies, including myself when i started, have especially with obsidion is not abraiding enough.
if you dont abraid the edge enough on the glass type materials then you just end up crushing the platforms and that gets frustrating.
if i were i wouldnt give, just keep flaking away youll get the hang of it.its like the old saying says "how do you get to carnegie hall, practice practicce practice"
same goes for kanpping.good luck bro
